Q: My organization is thinking of hosting a gala to raise funds and build awareness for our organization. What do we do next?
A: There are some key components your organization will need in order to pull off a large event:
- An organizational leader + members of the board who are committed to the idea of an event and willing to help see it through.
- A pool of volunteers available to help carry out some of the event tasks, especially on the day of the event and
- Clear, measurable goals for what you want to achieve through this event. You can have multiple goals (i.e. fundraising and awareness building) but one of those goals must stand out as the most important.
Once you have these key elements in place, give us a call. We’d be happy to put together a plan of action for you!
Q: Why should we hire Wow Factor vs. having an event person on staff?
A: If your organization hosts multiple events per year, then you should absolutely hire an event manager. However, the average nonprofit organization hosts 1–3 events per year. In that instance, hiring us ends up being more cost-effective for the organization because they don’t have to pay for employee benefits, sick time or spend time training the employee. As contractors we work from our own offices and utilize our own computers, freeing up valuable office space and technology for staff.
Q: We’re thinking of hiring you to produce our event. Do you sell sponsor packages?
A: We do not. And here’s why…It is extremely important that your organization build and maintain a relationship with any event sponsors. Oftentimes corporations will “dip their foot in the pool” with an event sponsorship. This allows them to get to know your organization better and to decide if your cause and organization is something they would want to support in the long run. Wow Factor is happy to put together sponsor packets and give you some tips for making those asks. We will also ensure that all of the sponsor benefits are being met once the sponsor has signed on for the event. However, we want you to have the benefit of that relationship with the sponsor.
Q: We would love to host an event but don’t have the funds to hire you. Do you do any pro bono work?
A: The short answer is yes. We will do up to 2 pro bono projects per year. However, these are typically projects that are near and dear to a member of the Wow Factor team’s heart.
If you’d like to be considered for one of the pro bono projects, please send your information to firstname.lastname@example.org along with a compelling reason why your organization should be considered.
Whether or not you are chosen as a pro bono recipient, we are happy to offer a free, 1-hour consultation for any nonprofit that’s thinking of hosting an event and doesn’t know where to start.
